HOW CARBON OFFSETS WORK

While few would argue that Carbon offsets are a perfect system, our belief is that with carefully chosen projects and partners they are a powerful tool to help conserve the beautiful cultures and unique environment that we bring you to experience. An example of excellent local partners is Health in Harmony along with ASRI.

A TRIP TO THE TASIKOKI WILDLIFE RESCUE CENTRE

Exactly a month before leaving on a 14-day cruise along a new route, I was communicating with the people from Tasikoki Wildlife Rescue Centre, which is located in North Sulawesi (just a ninety-minute drive outside of Manado city centre). We were planning to visit Tasikoki as a part of our new route, called From The Spice Islands to Sulawesi – Sailing the Undiscovered Frontier from Ternate to Bitung.

PEEK UNDER THE SURFACE

During one of the village visits we made on a trip with SeaTrek in 2018, there was a village where the houses were built on stilts just above the water, which sadly had so much plastic trash floating in the water just underneath their houses, especially single-use plastics and other non-biodegradable things It was a very sad scene to see. On top of that, there are still many areas where dynamite fishing practice are still very much alive. All of this is because of lack of understanding of coral reef and the ocean’s value, and our environment in general.

A MANTA NAMED OMBAK PUTIH

New additions to the family don’t come around that often, but in December 2018, SeaTrek Sailing Adventures was delighted to welcome a new and very unexpected member to the fold.As our tour leaders were leading a snorkelling session in Raja Ampat on a Jewels of Raja Ampat trip, our group came across an individual reef manta ray gliding along in the shallows. Our quick-thinking tour leader Dani Mulyana took out his camera and managed to take the beautuful shots below, capturing her unique markings in the process.
